YRS New York City 29 - 30 June 2013

We worked with a number of networks including Mozilla, Hive and the Museum of the Moving Image to run the first ever Young Rewired State event in New York on the 29th and 30th June 2013. These stellar organizations teamed up to bring you the best coding weekend that the Big Apple has ever seen!

You can view our YRS NYC Eventifier profile here.

Our YRS NYC event took place at the Museum of Moving Image in Astoria. It was the first part of our YRS Everywhere series, where we are bringing our Young Rewired State events all around the world, instead of just limiting them to our very successful Festival of Code in the UK.

The event began on the Saturday morning, where our young participants formed groups and chose what types of open data they would like to work with. They then built their projects/hacks throughout the rest of the day. The event will continued early the following morning, where hacks were completed, submitted and presented in the Show and Tell. Our panel of judges then deliberated, and prizes were be awarded! Our YRS NYC event concluded on Sunday evening.

Young people aged 18 or under, who know how to program and mentors came together with skills can range from being able to edit HTML to being a poly-codal genius. We will host you for a weekend, you will be mentored by developers and designers in-house, as well as remotely by YRS peers and the world-wide mentor network and you will get to build things with open government data.

We are also looking for talented mentors and youth for next years #yrsnyc If you have coding or educational experience and are over the age of 18, we would love to have you act as a mentor to our participants!
